Mitral valve prolapse Treatment
If patient with asymptomatic or mild symptoms, no need to treatment, can be a normal working life. If have syncope, sudden death for family history, or complex ventricular arrhythmias, Marfan syndrome, patients should avoid strenuous exercise.
Mitral valve prolapse with Chest pain, treatment is used β-blockers to reduce myocardial oxygen consumption and ventricular wall tension, slow heart rate, decreased myocardial contractility, improve the degree of mitral valve prolapse, in order to ease the pain. Nitrate drugs can increase the mitral valve prolapse should be used with caution.
Patient with mitral insufficiency, before and after the surgery, tooth extraction, delivery or invasive inspection, should take prophylactic antibiotics to prevent infective endocarditis.
Patient who have arrhythmias associated with palpitations, dizziness, vertigo or syncope, can use β-blockers, if invalid, should medication such as phenytoin, quinidine, etc., if necessary, can drug combination.
Transient Cerebral Ischemia in patient, should be treated by aspirin and other antiplatelet aggregation drugs, if invalid, can use anticoagulant drugs to prevent cerebral embolism.
Severe mitral regurgitation combined with congestive heart failure, and often need surgical treatment. For extension of the tendons or fracture, valve ring to expand, but mitral valve thickening without calcification, those patient can be treated by valve repair; not suitable for valve repair, should perform the artificial valve replacement.
