Hypopituitarism

What is Hypopituitarism?
Hypopituitarism is reduced thyroid hormones, or reduced peripheral tissue sensitivity to thyroid hormone, and then cause metabolism disorder, such as reduced sweating, skin drying, heart rate slow, loss of appetite, dry stool, fatigue. Incidence of hypothyroidism in the fetal period or shortly after birth, as known as cretinism; appear in early childhood known as hypothyroidism; appear in adult hypothyroidism called Hypopituitarism. Severe patient, because have the characteristic swelling, so called myxedema.

What are causes of Hypopituitarism?
1. Primary:
1): pituitary and nearby organization's malignant tumor oppress, destruct adenohypophysis. Adenoma can be divided into functional (PRL tumors, GH tumors, ACTH tumor) and non-functional;

2): postpartum hemorrhage syndrome and other vascular diseases such as diabetes-induced vascular lesions cause avascular necrosis of the adenohypophysis ;

3): infection that involvement pituitary (tuberculosis, meningitis or encephalitis), surgery and trauma, pituitary apoplexy, infiltrative diseases (including leukemia infiltration).

2. secondary:
1): pituitary stalk injury: such as trauma, pituitary or sellar region surgery, tumor suppression;

2): the hypothalamus and other central nervous system lesions: such as trauma, tumor and sarcoidosis, anorexia nervosa, poisoning.
